Emdebian Release Notes[ Emdebian Grip 3.0 ] [ Emdebian Crush is not available for Wheezy ]
Emdebian Grip 3.0 (based on Debian 7.0 "wheezy")
The status of the Emdebian Grip distribution
- Limited package set -
Emdebian Grip 3.0 only contains a relatively small number of packages (~3,000 compared to the>30,000 in Debian).
The packages themselves come directly from Debian 7.0 "wheezy", processed by the debian-grip support scripts.
Seven architectures - only armel, armhf, mips, mipsel, i386, amd64 and powerpc are supported for Emdebian Grip 3.0.
- Some kernels - Emdebian does not provide kernels for all supported architectures, stock Debian kernels exist for some architectures. The tools include support for packaging a bespoke kernel (and associated modules) alongside the root filesystem but the installation of the kernel and modules is not included in the tool support.
- Stalled -
- Emdebian Crush - the cross-built variation of Emdebian did not make it into reality due to the current status of cross-building in Debian, the transition to Multiarch and various other issues.
Emdebian Wheezy Grip installation
The recommended and most common way to install Emdebian Wheezy Grip is to create a root filesystem and add a custom kernel for the specific device. Tools to create the rootfs include multistrap and debootstrap. When creating a foreign architecture rootfs or needing to combine custom packages with a wheezy-grip base, multistrap is preferred.
Unofficial Debian Installer images for Emdebian Wheezy Grip are being prepared and may be useful for testing Emdebian Wheezy Grip using virtualisation or similar.
Emdebian Crush 3.0 is not available.
