Emdebian Release Notes

[ Emdebian Grip 2.0 ] [ Emdebian Crush is not available for Squeeze ]

Emdebian Grip 2.0 (based on Debian 6.0 "squeeze")

The status of the Emdebian Grip distribution

  1. Limited package set -

Emdebian Grip 2.0 only contains a relatively small number of packages (~2,000 compared to the>20,000 in Debian).

The packages themselves come directly from Debian 6.0 "squeeze", processed by scripts from the emdebian-grip-server package.

  2. Six architectures - only armel, mips, mipsel, i386, amd64 and powerpc are supported for Emdebian Grip 2.0.

Some SH4 packages are available in Emdebian Grip Unstable but not enough packages had been built natively in Debian to make a full release of SH4 when Squeeze was frozen. Of the SH4 packages available for Emdebian Grip, many are missing dependencies.

  3. Some kernels - Emdebian does not provide kernels for all supported architectures, stock Debian kernels exist for some architectures. The tools include support for packaging a bespoke kernel (and associated modules) alongside the root filesystem but the installation of the kernel and modules is not included in the tool support.
  4. Debian installer ISO images are available, but only for the 2.0.3 update for Emdebian Grip Squeeze. As the integration of Emdebian into Debian proceeds, the availability of prebuilt ISO images based on Debian Installer will increase.

With these limitations in mind, Emdebian has used the template of the Debian installation guide to create the Emdebian Grip 2.0 Installation Guide. The Debian Release Notes could also be useful.

Emdebian Crush 2.0 is not available.

The status of the Emdebian Crush distribution

  1. Stalled -
    • Emdebian Crush - the cross-built variation of Emdebian did not make it into reality due to the current status of cross-building in Debian, the transition to Multiarch and various other issues.

Reasons for unavailability of Crush 2.0.
